Oh my goodness I'm extremely sorry!!! My friend has been in and out of hospital with heart valve problems so I haven't really been online much.
Yes I am a fan of the musical films - particularly Gypsy. When I was very little I had a pocket watch my mum gave me and a jewellery box with plastic rings, necklaces, the usual little girl stuff, and I would dance along to You've Got To Pick A Pocket or Two from Oliver! and make up choreography...*sigh* :P
When does the show open? Or has it already? It sounds extremely interesting. I'm not a diehard fan of Judy Garland but I really do love her acting! It breaks my heart that she went so young.
Aww thank you! It makes me happy that you got so much pleasure and pride out of those videos, it's such a shame they had to be taken down but they were absolutely brill! A few years later, inspired by yours and Katarina's vids, I made a couple of montages myself. They are still in the Youtube void somewhere but I got the National Tour and Broadway orphans very wrong so I don't link people to them! Haha :P
Perhaps it was Tricia you spoke to? I am good friends with her. She is a lovely woman. She played Pepper in the London cast in January - March 1979 after the original set of orphans left. There were then two sets of orphans and they corresponded with the Broadway orphans. She still has her letter from Sarah Jessica Parker! I met her when her daughter and I were doing rehearsals for a London show. Her daughter did a photoshoot for the 2015 UK Annie tour with Craig Revel Horwood as Miss Hannigan. The last time I heard she was planning to audition for it too but I'm not sure if she was cast. It is touring in a theatre very near to me and dear to my heart in September so I will hopefully go and watch it then, providing it doesn't clash with the show I am in at the moment.
The internet truly is brilliant! I'd never imagine that such a wonderful community like this could stem from something but I'm so happy it exists! Hopefully one for the Miz Kids one day, but for now the 25th Anniversary Tour Kids are having a meet up very soon, and Les Miserables cast change and "muck up matinee" (The last matinee before the final performance with the current cast where silly little changes are deliberately done - last year Anton who was Enjolras did a backflip off of the barricade when he got shot [funnily enough Andrea McArdle who was Fantine/Bullet boy/Ensemble did that when her friends came to see the show in order to impress them, however she forget she had a half eaten packet of M&Ms in her coat pocket and they came clattering out into the orchestra pit!], Carrie joined Les Amis de l'ABC in ECAET and Tam Mutu did an awkwardly long pause during The Robbery] is fast approaching so many many meet ups to come! Carrie is staying on another year as Eponine and my dear friend Emma has been moved up from second cover Eponine to first cover - so she will get a chance to actually play "Emponine" this year!! :D
Agreed!! The added rock sound kinda added to the rebellious nature of the orphans! A great feelgood production - Dutch audiences are very enthusiastic too :D
I think the sets and costumes in the Portugese production were a little too clean and modern looking. I liked the idea of the girls having similar uniforms though. As for the lyrics I can't really say as I don't speak the language haha!
Yes, it does surpise a lot of people! But your videos actually got me into Annie. I was about 7, and the 1999 movie was just finishing so I googled it and came across your HKL montage - the rest is history!
I've been invested with theatre from an early age - my mum has been acting for 30 years and also makes costumes for productions - my older sister used to act but doesn't anymore. It was by chance that a girl a year older than me was in a show and dropped out because of nerves, they needed another little girl asap, I was about 5 at the time and went along to auditions after my mother asked if I wanted to and got the part. It was so much fun I've never looked back! I think it helps me deal a lot with my anxieties and illnesses, I can just lose myself in a character. I think if I hadn't been introduced at such an early age and influenced by my family's passion I'd never want to get up on there nowadays! But it's such a huge aspect of my life I couldn't imagine not doing it. I've made some amazing friends and boosted my confidence through it, reguarly my fellow Les Mis fans go to the Queen's Theatre stage door and say hello to the cast who are like our best friends now, especially Carrie who plays Eponine! She's a lovely girl and so supportive and I'm so grateful for every great memory I've had thanks to theatre, including this website and you yourself! :) x
I'm sorry, I accidentally deleted your latest comment as I'm on mobile and can't work it at all! But I think I can remember most of what you told me. Was that Haruka's parents? They uploaded some wonderful vids and pics of her in Annie, all of which make me cry. A brilliant production! They were so nice also.
Ahhh that's such a shame, I know there's been two professional productions in Portugal itself though. Does the Portugese spoken in Brazil differ slightly from that in Portugal? I'd love to visit both countries one day! I dream of seeing the Olympics at Rio next year but alas I'm a bit young! :P
Ah that sounds a great topic, I'm glad your professor liked it!! And thank you, I'm sure I'll find some great pics, I managed to get onto the Malmo Annie 2006 website and the old NETworks Annie on Tour site to find some pictures using Archive.org - a true godsend!!! Can't wait for my next topic where I get to work on costumes! That should be great fun! Ahh it's not a bad ol' place, come on down anytime! I'd love to come to Brazil one day! Have there ever been any professional productions of Annie in your home country? :) x
Ahh I can relate to that! I tried to recover the files via usb as we still had the old harddrive but the battery just wasn't having it and I couldn't find the charger or get a new battery so I left it. I'm actually doing a lecture on the impact that musical theatre has had around the globe and how it changes with each country. A lot of great and new pictures of productions I've managed to recover online however some sites where I once found them have been taken down, but no worries as there's some great other pictures I have! I'm well thanks! I come from a little farming county in England called Suffolk :)
Ah that's a shame! :( they were great. I was wondering if you still had the photo of the Stockholm 1999 orphans singing Never Fully Dressed? It'd be nice to use it for my lecture as part of my musical theatre course but it's no worries if you don't! Hope you are well x
