On Wednesday the world, and theatre world in particular, lost Mike Nichols, one of the producers of the original "Annie" back in 1977.  He came to the rescue and helped champion the new musical when it was seeking financial backers prior to its pre-Broadway run in Washington, D.C. at the Kennedy Center.  As the New York Times obituary stated, he won a Tony and a fortune for his association with "Annie."
